WhatsApp has recently launched the UPI Payment feature in its latest update. The payment feature is only enabled for Android & iOS versions of WhatsApp. WhatsApp has enabled payment option with the condition of referrals. Payment feature can be enabled by receiving a referral from a person who has already activated it.
It is mandatory to send and receive money via WhatsApp both the sender and receiver should have the UPI payment option enabled within their WhatsApp application.
Though the WhatsApp is updated to the latest version, the Payment option will not appear in the settings instantly unless the person has enabled Payment feature in his/her WhatsApp application. They should follow the below mentioned steps to refer it to someone else -
Open chat window of the person whom you want to refer for the Payment feature.
Select 'Attachment Pin' placed at bottom in the typing box
Select 'Payments' option from the pop-up window
Since the referred person is not enabled for UPI payment in WhatsApp, it will display popup message that the beneficiary has to enable Payment feature from WhatsApp Settings & the transaction will be declined.
This process would enable the Payment option under WhatsApp settings of referred person
The person then has to visit his/her WhatsApp settings => Payments & register for UPI on WhatsApp
Using this feature users can send money using their Saraswat Bank account on WhatsApp without installing any other PSP (UPI application).
